Cellist Şőlen Dikener made his solo debut appearance in 1985 with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Ankara, Turkey. Since then he maintained a busy concert career as a chamber musician in the USA and Europe, performing with Trio d’Autan, Orpheus Trio, Burdick-Thorne String Quartet. Since 1997 he has been concertizing with Capital Trio, the ensemble in residence at SUNY-Albany.

 

Inspired by the music of contemporary composers, Dikener promoted many deserving works for cello and chamber music and published five world premiere albums featuring the music of İlhan Baran, İlhan Usmanbaş, Adnan Saygun, Cengiz Tanç, Necil K. Akses, William Matthews, David Walther, Mark Zanter and Paul Tortelier as well as works by Cemal R. Rey, Scott Michal, and David Williams.

In 2022, he published his latest recording "A Beautiful Star" with pianist Yesim Dikener. This album features his own transcriptions of songs from the vocal repertoire. 

 

Dikener’s musical talent was recognized early on and at the age of thirteen, he was invited to study in the class of Gifted Students at State Conservatory. Upon graduation, he continued his studies for a year with Tobias Kuehne in Vienna, and for the next three years with Paul and Maud Tortelier in Nice. He also worked with Michel Lethiec, Frieder Lenz, Dennis Parker, Owen Carman, and the members of the Guarnieri Quartet. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University.

 

Dr. Dikener is currently a professor of music at Marshall University. He is also the founder and the director of Dat.C.A. Summer Cello Academy in Turkey.
